We have an opportunity for a Cook or Chef to join our catering team, with the responsibility for preparing and cooking high quality food for the golf club’s day-to-day and event customers. The Cook or Chef will work in the kitchen of the Clubhouse restaurant alongside other members of the catering team and front of house colleagues. The business is open to the general public alongside the Club’s members and visitors. 

Bondhay Golf Club is a privately owned golf club situated at the meeting point of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, and boasts a range of quality facilities including an 18 hole championship course, 9 hole academy course, putting green and driving range. The catering department primarily serves golfing customers and societies on a daily basis, but also regularly caters for events such as parties, weddings and other occasions. 

Whilst the ideal candidate will come from a previous catering background or qualifications, we are open to candidates from all backgrounds as long as suitable cooking skills can be showcased. The business will support any candidates with essential qualifications such as food hygiene. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Regularly prepare and serve food from the restaurant/bar’s regular menu
  • Prepare and serve food for groups and societies
  • Prepare and serve food for event bookings, which may include set menus, buffets or serving stations
  • Prepares selected food items ahead of daily and/or weekly service that can be stored
  • Makes adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies or specific diet concerns
  • Portion, arrange and garnish food based on client preference
  • Bake sweet goods / confectionery items for sale in front of house areas or halfway house
  • Work alongside the Clubhouse Manager to ensure stock levels and ordering is maintained and timely in accordance with upcoming requirements
  • Safely operate various kitchen appliance such as a blender, oven, grill etc
  • Assist other cooks during the food assembly process
  • Devise new recipes and assist in creating new menus for groups and events
  • Clean food preparation areas as determined by law and company policy
  • Maintain overall cleanliness and shut down kitchen after opening/service hours

This role reports directly to the Clubhouse Manager. Bondhay is not a committee/members owned Club. 

Hours of Work & Contract

The employment is on a 20+ hour contract. The role requires flexible working across weekdays and weekends with shift patterns confirmed up to a month in advance. Weekend availability is a must and you may be required to work Bank Holidays from time-to-time. Due to the seasonal nature of the business, more hours are available in the spring, summer and autumn months. 

The kitchen, as standard, is staffed from 09:00 until 17:00 on weekdays and 07:00 to 17:00 on weekends, but customer numbers, pre-booked groups and events may dictate changes to these hours. 

Salary is minimum wage or National Living Wage, but we will give fair consideration to candidates with experience and qualifications. Overtime is payable at the standard rate of pay. 

The post-holder is entitled to statutory sick-pay arrangements and will be enrolled in the Government pension scheme.

The business regularly supports learning and training opportunities for all of our employees. 

There will be a three month probationary period.
