The Captain's Drive-In (also known as Captain's Handover) took place at Bondhay Golf Club on Saturday 2nd November 2024, with members competing in the annual board event for their chance to grab a range of fantastic prizes across the golf and raffle. Prizes includes Druids clothing, Titleist accessories, golf lessons with the Pros and much more.

Following the presentation of the winners, which gave prizes for the top five places plus nearest the pins and longest drive, 2024's Club Captain Roy Cullis gave an emotional speech that thanked all of the membership and the club's staff for their support throughout the year

In his first act as Club Captain, Mark Highfield announced his Club Charities as Thornberry Animal Sanctuary and Rain Rescue. Both are local charities, located less than 10 miles from the golf club, so it's a priviledge to again be supporting causes that are close to the community's hearts. Fundraising will take place throughout the year through participation in various events, such as Captain's Charity Day, and we will have change boxes located throughout the clubhouse year-round.

Founded in 2002, Rain Rescue has saved the lives of thousands of the cats and dogs most at risk in and around Yorkshire. Rescuing hundreds of animals a year, their rescue centre provides the space and support needed for these abandoned animals to recover, thrive and find a loving home.

Thornberry serve a similar mission. They are a rescue centre based in South Yorkshire on two different sites. Founded in 1988, Thornberry have since rescued thousands of Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Equines and some other larger species at their farm at Ravenfield, whilst all other animals are at Todwick Road, Dinnington. They take animals that through no fault of their own need a new home and try to match them to their perfect forever home after a thorough assessment.

On his appointment, Mark Highfield said:

"I first joined Bondhay back in 1996 when you could see the 14th fairway from the Clubhouse – which is hard to believe now with all the trees – and I remember when the Function Suite was a cantonese restaurant. To see where things have progressed to now is amazing. All of us have chosen to be members at this golf club because we love the club, we love the course and we love the challenge.

I've been on the committee for over five years now, as Secretary and Vice Captain among other roles, so to move into the role of Captain is a great honour. I am pleased to say that Shane Turner will be serving as Vice Captain for 2025. I've known Shane for a long time and it's fantastic that we'll get to work closely together in this role together.

I will work tirelessly for all members to ensure that this is the best club it can be. Please bear with me for a little while as I get everything in order and start work in this role, including the planning for next year."

Everyone at Bondhay thanks Roy for his service as Captain during 2024 and wish him a continued recovery following his illness earlier this year. Congratulations to Mark Highfield on his appointment to the role and everyone at Club looks forward to working with him through an exciting year for all.
