Passing the Torch: Bondhay’s Captain’s Handover and Results

Captain's Handover is always a tale of two halves as the Club transitions from one Captain to another, but it was once again made a memorable event by the participation of our members.

The sold-out competition saw a later-than-usual 10am shotgun start, as over 100 partipants tested their golfing wares in a classic singles stableford format. The top five scores were honoured at the presentation, with the overall winner also becoming the holder of the trophy and having their name etched in honours board history. Here are the official results:

  • 1st: Adam Powell | 38 pts | £70
  • 2nd: Greg Masters | 38 pts | £60
  • 3rd: Daniel Ball | 37 pts | £50
  • 4th: Steve Mould | 37 pts | £40
  • 5th: Jack Morris | 36 pts | £30

A full list of individual results can be found on the Club Competitions notice board or in the BRS Scoring / Golf Genius apps.

Members gathered in the club's Devonshire Suite at the conclusion of play to not only enjoy the kindly-bought free tipple, but for inauguration of the 2026 Club Captain. Outgoing Captain Mark Highfield opened proceedings with warming words about the year's achievements, thanking the members, the staff and — most importantly — his wife Diane for their support over the past year, before officially introducing Shane Turner. Shane steps into the role having served as Vice Captain under Mark. Longstanding member Chris Bowler will be Vice Captain for 2026.

Josh Clarke, Operations Director at Bondhay Golf Club, said:

"Mark brought a refreshing presence during his time as Club Captain, really grabbing the bull by the horns and exhibiting what it takes to spearhead the golf club. Diane and Mark's fundraising for Thornberry and Rain Rescue is commendable – nearly £4000 raised for two great causes. On behalf of the Management Team and the wider Bondhay family, I'd like to thank Mark for his passion over the past year, and for often being the face of Bondhay welcoming members and guests at competitions and events. Congratulations on a great year and I'm certain we'll see each other plenty still as he continues in the position of Secretary.

An incredibly warm welcome and congratulations to our new Club Captain, Shane Turner, who I know will step into the role with ease, and to Chris on his appointment as VC. I look forward to sitting down soon to start finalising their plans for the next year."
